Being happy

clarity

Get clear on your vision and why it is that you want to do this. What is the ultimate change or impact you and your business will have. Just like Simon Sinek talked about - think of your why in terms of what you believe is truly important for you and your audience.

As you get clearer on your vision and what you want to achieve - this will allow you to see the path ahead. It will allow you to make some important decisions too, like:
- Do you need to leave your job to do this?
- Can you work on something else that pays you alongside this project?
- Do you need to work on it a full time basis now or later?
- What needs to happen and when/ where and with whom?

TAKE ACTION
Here are some ideas on how to get started. I hope these help you gain a bit more clarity on the way forward.

Dare to dream (says Jim Rohn). Make your vision:
INSPIRING • BELIEVABLE • DOABLE AND CHALLENGING all at the same time.
"...We want to set the goals that our heart conceives (it's aligned with our values), that our mind believes (because we know we have the right attitude and tools to make it happen), and that our bodies will carry out..." (Jim Rohn).

Know your WHY
Watch Simon Sinek's video (below) to be clear on this.

Then break it down into specific and very SMART goals.
SPECIFIC • MEASURABLE • ACHIEVABLE • REALISTIC • TIME SPECIFIC

Pan out the detail:
THE WHAT • THE WHY • WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU • THE BIGGER IMPACT • THE RESOURCES • THE HOW • THE PLACE/ WHERE DOES IT NEED TO HAPPEN • WHO DO YOU NEED • WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT • THE WHEN/ YOUR TIMELINE, WHEN DO THINGS NEED TO HAPPEN.

As you plan - always have your big dream/ vision in sight. Make sure your goals and action points serve to take you closer to that vision.

Advice from Jim Rohn on setting goals and achieving what you want. (This is a 44page booklet. But it's a quick read - you will know most of the stuff in it. Still, worth checking out).

Visualise the process not just the goal (from Jonathan Fields - I've shared this with you before).

Planning the detail - steps from Cyril Peupion (download the free weekly planner).

You can use this action plan by Carrie Green from the Female Entrepreneur Association (it is designed to help you achieve something this month - but you can adapt it for your own needs I'm sure). Also worth checking out the Female Entrepreneur's Association site (it's UK based but for a global audience) and it has lots of useful bits.

SOME INSPIRATION...

where you are at • how you got here

REFLECT • GROW
VALUE DISCOVERY EXERCISE

I hope this exercise helped you identify some of the core values that have been driving your behaviour. When you think of moments where you felt really happy, or where you felt successful or proud you are able to see some powerful patterns of behaviour that allow you to understand how you got here. People often call this their internal compass. And your decision making has been guided by this.

Some of the values we identified were:
  • Learning and discovery (looking for opportunities that allow you to learn new things)
  • Personal development (wanting to always work on yourself and grow)
  • Adventure (being comfortable with the unknown)
  • Significance (knowing that you matter/ you are needed)
  • Leadership and responsibility (being able to inspire and lead others)

Do you agree with these? Are there others that you can identify?
Here is a list of common values for you to have a look. Check and see if there are others that you think are important to you. As you go through the list and you check the ones above - think about whether they are positive or rather negative/ limiting ones.

Limiting values are the ones that instead of taking us closer to the things we desire they actually keep us from achieving them. The way I'm able to identify my limiting values is by thinking about the 'excuses' I use for not doing stuff. But don't worry too much about these, we will work more on limiting values next time we meet.

MOVING FORWARD

BEGIN WITH THE END IN M
IND
"...Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen." (Stephen R. Corvey)

I think this is a really powerful statement and an even more powerful practice. So I would encourage you to do exactly this. Think • Imagine • See who you want to be and then work backwards from there.

Here is a video to help guide you through this exercise:
SEE IT • BELIEVE IT • ACT ON IT

TAKE ACTION
Try out the above exercise in conjunction with this process simulation* for best results. (*the article is a 7min read).

Be sure to:
  • list the different things that you can do to help make this vision a reality.
  • Can these actions be turned into rituals? (what can you do every day to take you closer to this vision)
  • What are some of the obstacles you envisage and how can you get past them?
  • Define success. How will you know when you get there and what happens when you veer off course.
  • Think of ways to turn this project into a win-win scenario. What steps can you take to make sure you got something beneficial our of this project (and learn from the experience not just the outcome*). (*This is a 13min podcast - worth listening to).
